Santa Monica Mountains Run

Saturday, August 21

Once again, Craig Dillman sponsored this ever-popular run, initiating at his place of business in Canoga Park.  The turnout was quite respectable, and we were blessed with good weather and great roads.  Another new member, Mike Dunn of Rancho Cucamonga, joined us with his 1936 BMW R12.  We headed out through Woodland Hills to Mulholland Highway, detouring to the coast via Old Topanga Canyon.

Somehow part of the group got separated in the canyon, and we waited along Coast Highway briefly.  Cruising northward on the coast through Malibu, we stopped for lunch near Zuma Beach, rejoining the rest of the group there.  Somehow they had passed us without our noticing – still a mystery as to how or where!  Some members of the LA Chapter had joined us for lunch, as they had a ride covering the same route area on that day as well.  We continued north and headed inland through the mountains after a brief gas stop.

Everyone re-convened at the famous Rock Store, where the crowd was much lighter on a Saturday compared to our Sunday ventures in the past.  We followed scenic Mulholland Highway back to Woodland Hills, returning on surface streets to Craig’s shop.  The total ride was in the vicinity of 85 miles,  Everyone enjoyed the ride as usual, and we parted at the conclusion of another fine adventure for the SoCal faithful.  Thanks again, Craig, for hosting this traditional event.
