Hansen Dam Run

November 2, 2003

Quite a few of the So Cal faithful turned up for this annual British ride through the scenic Angeles Crest high country.  We met at the Hansen Dam parking area just off the 210 at the Osborne exit, proceeding north through Little Tujunga Canyon.  Not long out of the start, our comrade Larry Ramos experienced a stall due to the ground strap on his battery.  A number of us European riders came to his aid at the roadside, and in no time, he and his Harley were back on the road!  We proceeded through the canyon twisties to Santa Clarita, then on to the high desert enclave of Acton.

Most of us convened at our traditional Mexican stop for lunch.  We were graced by the presence of two visitors from England, courtesy of Homer Knapp.  Andy Parfett and his “significant other,” Sara Carter, had flown over from England just for the weekend!  It happens that Andy works for American Airlines, thus the short travel arrangements were no problem.  Sara rode Homer’s Norton/Ariel special, while Andy straddled an old Triumph that Homer happened to have in stable.  Eleven of our chapter members graced the ride as well.  After lunch, the ride proceeded to Hidden Springs on the Angeles Crest before descending through Big Tujunga Canyon to Sunland and returning to the Hansen Dam lot.

It seems that the British folks decided to forego the show presentations at the end due to the threat of rain, but nonetheless, a good time was had by all and we meandered home without getting wet!  Besides myself, I would like to acknowledge the participation of the following chapter faithful:  Carroll Francis, Dudley Pollard, Homer Knapp (with English Guests), Jeff Moore, Mike Menezes, Craig Dillman, Larry Ramos, Nick Dounias, Mike Doom and Erhard Hirschfelder.
