Palos Verdes Peninsula Run

July 3rd Saturday

By Tom Lovejoy

Time once again for our run around Palos Verdes. The weather was good and surprise - the traffic was light, we did not know what to expect it being the 4th of July weekend. We only had four machines this year in attendance, but they were good machines and good folks. So despite some technical difficulties which I take responsibility for, the ride went well. I and my dear ‘ol Dad thank all who attended.

Craig Dillmann and Irma were on Craig’s faithful Chief, Dave Cook rode in on his just rebuilt, running strong and looking good 65 Sportster. We had a new guest come out for the ride a Steve Wallace and Lady friend Andrea I think on a sharp 68 FL Harley and yours truly on my Sport Scout. We had not one but two trouble trucks, thanks to Hobo John and Marc Gallin. Hobo needs to do a little work on his Chief and Marc took a nasty fall off one of those razor scooters and was feeling a bit stiff, so he cruised in comfort in his truck. Neither truck was needed nor in fact we lost both for a period, sorry again.

Those who made it were treated to a nice day with a new stop at an L. A. chapter member’s house to view his truly impressive collection of cars and motorcycles. Fantastic machines, one of which was the 1913 Iver Johnson I used for last years Christmas cards. Thanks very much to Phil Schmidt for his hospitality and letting us all dream of his awesome machines. From Phil’s garage you can sit and gaze upon the Pacific! It was quite a treat, thanks again Phil!

We then made our way to the Light house cafe for a pleasant lunch with good friends. After that we broke off and headed for home. A neat little note, my Dad and I met Steve on a weekend morning making our little ride around P.V... Steve was ridding a bicycle around P.V.! That guys in shape. Turned out Steve had an interest in the old two wheelers. Fast forward a couple months and here he is on a sharp original 68 Harley, right on!

As you can tell from the small turn out, Dad and I still have tons of donuts - so stop on by and have some :-) Anyways we had a very good day and hope to see ya all soon on a up coming event, till then Tom.
