International Motorcycle Show

December 7-9, 2001

By Marc Gallin

The SoCal Chapter was proud to be a part of the 2001 International Motorcycle Show presented by Cycle World Magazine in Long Beach Convention Center.  Club Secretary Marc Gallin coordinated the effort which put together a full dozen magnificent machines.  Starting with Chuck Vernon’s 1912 Indian 8-Valve Board Track Racer, the Club had bikes from each decade all the way up to 1950 represented.

The Clubs display was very well received by the hoards of motorcycle enthusiasts who made their way around the Convention Center during the three day show.  All major motorcycle manufacturers were on hand showing their latest and greatest machines.  Familiar names like Harley-Davidson, Indian, Triumph and BMW, just to name a few. All the Japanese manufacturers were also in attendance with their futuristic machines.  Also in attendance were a large variety of parts vendors selling their wares.

My thanks to all those Club members who generously donated their machines or their time to help out in the booth.  Special thanks to Tim Graber for handing me this project and to Tom Lovejoy for bringing Andy Davis down to the event on Saturday afternoon.  Also thanks to Tom Hart, Jennifer Curan, Mike Doom, Nick Dounias, Frank Colver and Steve Sorenson for helping watch the booth. And I know everyone enjoyed the marvelous commentary Larry Ramos gave about the history of the Board Track Racer.  We look forward to being invited back next year with even more machines.
