The SoCal Chapter has been a sponsor of this Charity ride for the past 5 years. This ride raises money for the Boy’s and Girls Club of Santa Ana. Our efforts this year assisted in $70,000 dollars being given to the Club for programs to help the kids! Thanks to you SoCal Chapter members for the support! 550 riders showed up for the event which consisted of a continental breakfast, a 90 mile ride, lunch, a pin and a shirt, and a ticket to the Eddie Money concert. Really quite a bargain for the $35 dollar donation.

Our Club leads the riders through the canyons and up the coast. We had 15 riders at the start and we were met at the end site by another 10 bikes. We had a real nice display area under the shade trees to have our lunch and listen to the music. Chuck Vernon tried to add to the music by starting his 8 valve Hendee special. Unfortunately something clogged the main jet and the bike would not run. Chuck called last night and said that he found the clog and put the carburetor back together. The bike started on the 2nd kick in his garage, imagine that!

Homer Knapp showed with the old Ranchero loaded to the gunrails! He brought the Ariel/Norton to show and an original 39 (with 47 front end) Ariel to ride. He also brought a French bicycle, tandem, with a Cyclo–Rex 30 cc motor mounted to the down tube.  Now I am here to tell you, I have never seen anything so cute! Homer had this thing up on a stand and he started it whenever someone asked about it. It came complete with a basket on the back rack that had a loaf of bread, a bottle of wine, and a French flag. I thought Homer was going to put on a beret and ask the ladies out for a date!

Frank Clover brought out a very rare BSA Model Y13 to round out the display. Also in attendance were Ralph Krough with his Red Hunter, Walt Frey with his Harley ‘45, Tom Hart with his ‘36 chief, Tom Lovejoy with his ‘40 scout, Dave Neiderhaus on his scout, Gerald Unis on his ‘39 scout, Janis on the ‘29 101, TJ Graber on my ‘48 chief and Matt Burns (Graber) on my ‘40 knuckle. All in all a great ride on a beautiful day with wonderful friends!  Let’s do it again next year!
