RAINBOW RUN INFO

Sunday, May 2, 2004

Everyone seemed to enjoy last year’s departure from the routine, where we toured inland to the high country near Anza, looping back through Idyllwild at 6,000 feet for lunch, then back through Hemet and the beautiful Wine Country before returning to base.  If this is the preference, then we will plan on repeating the experience.  Alternatively, we can combine this with a short tour of the back roads of north San Diego County as we have in the past.

The base of the ride will be the Rainbow Oaks Restaurant as usual, where you may come early for a hearty breakfast and enjoy some refreshment at the end of the ride as well.  Our lunch stop will be planned for Idyllwild as last year if that is the preferred route.  Details of the ride are as follows:

TIME and DATE:  Sunday, May 2; Breakfast Arrival as you wish; Ride leaves at 10AM

BASE LOCATION:  Rainbow Oaks Restaurant – Rainbow Valley Blvd., Rainbow, CA

Ample Parking Available at and around the Restaurant

DIRECTIONS

From the North:

Exit Interstate 15 at Rainbow Valley Blvd., just South of Temecula; turn left to cross over the freeway, then South along the east side frontage road (Rainbow Valley Blvd.) for about 2 miles or less; restaurant is on your left.

From the South:

Exit Interstate 15 at Mission Rd. (Fallbrook) exit; turn right and proceed north along east frontage road for about two miles; restaurant is on your right.

There should be gas available at Rainbow Oaks, but in any event, we will make a gas stop in Temecula on Highway 79 within 5-10 miles of our start.  There is gas available in Anza and Idyllwild, and on the return route in Hemet.  I will try to have a simple map and a set of directions available at the start.  We WILL need a volunteer for trouble truck, as this route takes us through some rather spectacular hinterlands!  The entire route is about 120 miles in circuit, but is quite varied and scenic throughout.   The ride should conclude about 4 PM or slightly earlier.
