Tehachapi/Lake Isabella/Walker Basin

Weekend Road Run

Saturday and Sunday, June 7 & 8, 2003

This run is a new addition to be sponsored by Erhard Hirschfelder and his wife Judy.  They reside in Bear Valley Springs, near Tehachapi.  This ride promises to be a spectacular combination of mountain and lakeside scenery, with a group dinner on Saturday evening if the attendees so desire.  The ride will be based at the Golden Hills Motel near Tehachapi (see directions below).  It would be an advantage to arrive Friday evening, June 6 at your leisure; however, for those who arrive Saturday morning, we will wait for you at the Caliente Off Ramp on Highway 58 at about 10 –10:30 AM.  Highlights of the ride are as follows:

ARRIVAL and DIRECTIONS to MOTEL; ROOM RESERVATIONS

ARRIVE at Golden Hills Motel, 22561 Wood Ford-Tehachapi Road, Tehachapi, CA.  Take Highway 58 East from Bakersfield or West from Mojave to the Tehachapi Route 202 Exit and follow Route 202 for three miles; take Wood Ford-Tehachapi Rd. right, about one mile downhill to the motel.  Rooms are $30 plus tax for One Bed, $40 plus tax for Two Beds.  Phone the Motel at (661) 822-4488 for reservations/directions and mention the AMCA

SATURDAY RIDE PLAN:

We will meet for breakfast at the APPLESHED Restaurant, on Tehachapi Blvd. on the east side of town (about 5 miles from the motel, or for Saturday arrivals, exit into town) at 8 AM or earlier.  The ride will depart from the restaurant at 9-9:30 AM, going back past the motel to the Tehachapi Loop Railroad Overlook.  We will then proceed to the Caliente Off Ramp to break for late arrivals as mentioned above.  The ride will proceed toward Lake Isabella to the “Cowboy Memorial,” where we will be given a guided historical tour and break for lunch.  After lunch, the ride will proceed to the old town of Havilah, continuing to Bodfish and Lake Isabella.  We will stop in Kernville at the museum before circling the lake, returning to Bodfish and the Walker Basin before looping to Caliente and the base in Tehachapi.  As mentioned earlier, we will have a group dinner if desired in the immediate area.

SUNDAY RIDE:

Breakfast is at your leisure; there is no restaurant at the motel, but nearby about 1-2 miles.  Sunday will feature a shorter ride to Erhard’s residence at Bear Valley Springs, about 6000 feet in elevation, with panoramic views of the Bakersfield area and surrounding valley.  He will host a light lunch for those present and we shall conclude what promises to be another scenic and enjoyable weekend adventure.
